When Joseph Ochoa was working on his 10th-grade English assignment to get information from a college of his choice, Boise State, little did he know what was in store. Boise State University Representative Everado Torrez was so impressed with Ochoa’s letter that he decided to deliver the requested materials in person.
Traveling all the way from Idaho, Torrez made a surprise visit to Ochoa’s Saugus High English classroom, presenting him with a Boise State T-shirt, cap and Idaho spud. Spontaneous applause broke forth in the classroom when the students realized what was happening. Principal Bolde and Head Counselor Marty Fricke were in on the visit as well. English teacher Janis Holt said it was the first time in five years of teaching this particular college-related assignment that a rep made a personal visit in response to a student’s inquiry.
