One woman was able to teach the old beauty industry some new tricks after unleashing a line of pet beauty products.
People’s relationships with their pets have truly evolved. Pet owners comprise over 63 percent of the American population and sales for pet products and services have grown steadily, reaching $2.4 billion in 2005. But even with all of the trendy sweaters and doggie rain boots, entrepreneur and dog lover Renée Ryan knew that something was missing. Even her fashionably savvy Boxer, Austin, needed a little refresher between shampoos. He was a rescue, and with a past of abuse and broken trust, it was difficult to get him to a groomer. Ryan came up short on many a shopping trip, finding shampoos and conditioners but nothing to care for Austin’s coat between washes.
Ryan knew she had dug up an untapped dog essential and utilized her 10 years of experience in the beauty industry and love of pets to create Sexy Beast™, a luxury line of canine fragrance and styling products. Ryan assembled an elite team to assist in the process. Karim Rashid worked on the modern product design, a former Kiehl’s chemist helped to insure only quality plant-based ingredients were used and Swiss fragrance house Givaudan created the signature scent.
Following the best interest of her four-legged customers, Ryan made sure all of the products were 100 percent safe, 100 percent vegan, paraben-free and hypo-allergenic. The fragrances cater to a dog’s sensitive smell and the three-step styling system soothes, conditions, deodorizes and includes natural insect repellents.
25 million people will celebrate the holidays with their four-footed best friends, and they’ll be able to stuff Spot’s stockings with limited edition Sexy Beast™ items including the Swarovski encrusted 3.4oz fragrance bottle and Jet Set Kit for pampered pups on the go.
The Sexy Beast™ line first launched at the iconic Studio at Fred Segal in 2006 where it attracted a celebrity following. Sexy Beast™ can be sniffed out in specialty stores, spas and boutiques across America and internationally. Traveling the Atlantic just in time for the holidays, Sexy Beast™ is making its international debut at the trend-setting, historical Harrods in London.
The success of Sexy Beast relies on the undeniable love between human and dog. Once in an abusive home, Sexy Beast™ spokesman Austin now oversees the New York City offices of the line that was inspired by him. He would recommend the Light Powder, accompanied by a belly rub. And some table scraps.
