Blue Star Mothers of the Canyons have been chosen by Unitarian Universalists as the recipient of the Third Sunday Special Collection for the month of January 2008. The Blue Star Mothers will use the gift to assist with postage for their “Hearts and Hugs from Home” boxes to be mailed to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for Valentines Day.
Since the tough times of World War II, members of the Blue Star Mothers have volunteered to work in hospitals, train stations, packed care packages for soldiers and have been a working part of homeland security during times of war.
The organization not only serves as a support group for active duty and veteran service personnel and their families, they also support our wounded warriors and their families, as well as the families of our fallen heroes. In addition, their mission is to promote patriotism, assist Veterans organizations, and serve in an educational, social, patriotic and service capacity in order to help our country remain strong. They are a non-profit, non-denominational, non-partisan organization.
Unitarian Universalists (UU’s) draw upon the teachings of many of the world’s faiths to help individuals build their own theology. They hold services each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market Street in Newhall.
