Is your home dimming the spirit of the New Year?  Here are some options and a secret for remodeling your Home in 2008.  The secret to remodeling your home for the new year has nothing to do with being naughty or nice and everything to do with timing.  You may not realize it, but right now can be a perfect time to start your renovation.  That’s because business for contractors and builders slows down between December and February.  Not only are most contractors eager for work, they have more time to invest in helping you the customer create the home of your dreams.
A great alternative to moving to a bigger home is a room addition.  If you find yourself cramped in your home and fantasize about having just a little more space, a single room can make a huge difference to you.  Perhaps you want to add a room over your garage, in the attic space, convert your garage or turning your existing deck and patio area into an enclosed room, all will add a lot of valuable living space to your home.

A room addition can definitely bring up the value of your home and give your family extra room for many things including a new family member, a den or games room, an in-law suite or nanny’s room.  A room addition can be very rewarding when it’s all complete and you have a great new space to call your own.  A room addition is a major home improvement project, no matter what the extra space will contain, you want your room addition to look great and provide you with an enjoyable and functional new room.  So, how do you make it happen?  Planning before you begin the project is the key to success.

Location and room size should be the first step in planning.  As you choose where the room will be located, make sure the access from within the home doesn’t interrupt traffic flow of other rooms.  All too often the best location outside the home causes you to have to go through other rooms for access.  This can cause problems.  If this is the case, consider resizing adjacent rooms or adding a hallway for easy access to the new room and adjoining rooms.
