Several months ago, we wrote about the weekly “Cruise In” or “Cars ‘n Coffee” event that takes place every Sunday morning in Calabasas. Since then we’ve been scouring the SCV for evidence of such events here. We’re pleased to report that there are, indeed, such events occurring in the SCV, but they are not well known. We hope that this article will help those interested in such events to be able to get involved.
What’s a “Cruise In”? It’s when a group of people park cool cars in a parking lot and spend some time together. They can “talk shop” about car issues, like specs on the cars, modifications they’ve made, track events, great drives and the like. They can take place during the day or at night, on a weekday or weekend. If you’re a car enthusiast, you should seek out a group that suits your interests. It’s a lot of fun and can be very rewarding on several levels.
Here is what we know so far, and we’ll update this information in about six months as we find out about more “Cruise In” events.
There’s a group of Acura NSX and Honda S2000 owners that meet to spend time together and chat. They meet Wednesday nights in the parking lot where the Corner Bakery, Starbucks and Pei Wei restaurant are located across the street from the Valencia Town Center. They are very friendly people, warm and receptive to people in the group and guests as well.
There are various groups of 1950s and 1960s classic American car owners that you can meet at various In ‘N Out burger restaurants around town. These are fun times because you can eat a great burger and look at pictures of cool cars in the restaurant as well as walk outside and see the real deal afterwards.
There is a group of 1950s classic American car owners that meets at a car wash in Canyon Country at night. The cars are beautifully kept and illuminated by very bright lights overhead. This is a very special location for nighttime “Cruise Ins.”
Finally, there is a brand new group meeting every Saturday morning at the Gateway Village Shopping Center parking lot. That is near the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Rye Canyon/Copper Hill. They started meeting Saturday, January 5, braving the rain and otherwise bad weather. The purpose of this group is to serve as a meeting place for owners of all types of cars, with all types of interests. The goal of the group that started this event is to replicate, over time, the “Cruise In” that takes place in Calabasas. So if you want to see a variety of cool cars, from new exotics to classics, come to this event. It’s every Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the first 6 people who arrive with a cool car get a $5 gift card to “The Coffee Bean,” which is in the center’s parking lot. Gift cards are provided by Valencia Exotic Car Club, so look for Mike Rossi to get your card when you arrive.
We’re sure there are more “Cruise In” events taking place in the SCV. If you’re involved in one, please send e-mail to mrossi@inslawgroup.com with information about the event. We’ll track the information and provide an update to this article later this year.
