Well it is February and when I look at the calendar, I realize I am still not used to writing 2008. It will take me a few more weeks of voiding checks from the checkbook. On the calendar, I see Groundhog Day, Presidents Day and Valentine’s Day.
Lets start with President’s Day. “Super Tuesday” is this month and we will narrow the field and come closer to a new president. I’m not sure it will be “Super”, but it should be fun. I never know who to vote for. I try to vote for the guy, or this year, the “Gal” who will be funniest. Comedians are always looking for new material on the horizon, and you have to admit the prospect of Bill Clinton back in White house with nothing to do is almost irresistible.
“Can I show you the Lincoln Bedroom?”
People sometimes didn’t even notice when Bill Clinton had good news. One year he was actually nominated for The Nobel Peace Prize. That year they spelled it P-I-E-C-E.
Let’s face it; we have elected some slightly silly people. Strom Thurmond served in the US senate until he was 100. I saw him walk onto the floor of Congress with his pants up to his Adam’s apple. I say term limitations ought to kick in when you get underarm stains on your trousers. That’s my litmus test.
One year Frank Zappa said he was going to run for president. I loved Frank Zappa, but the chances of him getting elected president were as likely as National Organization of Women having their annual luncheon at Hooters.
I am almost out of space, so let’s see if I can combine Groundhog Day with Valentine’s Day. In the movie Groundhog Day, the same thing happened over and over again. This year don’t let that happen on Valentines Day. I have a suggestion. Come check out our very special relationship comedy show with dinner, champagne and a rose for the ladies!
Also, in the spirit of giving, we are doing a fundraiser this month for two of our own. One of our beloved waiters is fighting a determined battle to get well from an illness and we are doing a show for him on Sunday, February 10 at 7 p.m. The comedians are donating their time and 100 percent of the cover charge will be donated to help him pay his bills. Later in the month we will have another one for a comedian friend who is battling lung cancer.
