Molds are made of several fungi, which are normally present in the air.  They become a big problem when there is enough moisture in the air for them to grow thus causing a mildew texture, which appears in a black color on most porous surfaces.  Mold causing mildew needs moisture, darkness, and warmth to grow; these conditions are found in many bathrooms.
Steamy summer days create a welcoming environment for mold and mildew. Any place where moisture collects is a prime growth area for mold and mildew.  Thus, the bathroom is always a major target for these unwelcome guests because of its moisture level, especially during the hot summer months when people may be taking more showers.

It will present itself as black stains in the shower or tub, around the faucet of the sink, and on the windowsill.  Other hang-out spots include poorly lit area such as on windowsills behind closed curtains, basements, and closets.  Although mold-causing mildew strives for the warmth of summer, it is in houses also in the winter.  Why?  Because the heat from the water in your shower continues and curtains and windows are staying closed to prevent drafts.

Molds eat away at different surfaces in your home, but the real problem is, you can get sick!  Molds and mildew can cause allergies in some people, with symptoms like coughing, itchy throat, red itchy eyes, runny nose, sinus infection, headache, asthma attacks, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, skin irritation, and more serious conditions.
Keeping surfaces clean and dry will help reduce mold and mildew growth areas, unfortunately for us, surfaces like tile, grout, and fiberglass will nest soap scum and moisture if they are not sealed properly.  We at ReBath can offer a free consultation on how to remodel your bathroom and eliminate mold once and for all.
