Creating an environmentally eco-safe place in your home is one of the best projects you can take on.  Not only will you be creating a more peaceful and healthy place to live in, but you will be contributing to a more beautiful atmosphere.  One of the easiest things people can do is to replace regular incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) or light emitting diodes (LEDs). You will be cutting down on your electric bill and using less unnecessary electricity.  CFLs are fluorescent lights that can be screwed into traditional bulb sockets and the best part is that they use only a quarter of energy of regular light bulbs and last for years.  LEDs are more energy efficient that CFLs and are becoming more widely available.  They last around 100,000 hours and use 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs.

Aside from light bulbs there are some simple steps you can take to make your home more environmentally friendly.  One tip is to unplug devices with power adapters when they are not in use.  They use power whenever they’re plugged in, even if the device is turned off.  Line-drying clothing instead of using a dryer can save you money and energy.  Another tip is to not let computers and other electronic devices go to “sleep”.  This also depletes unneeded energy.

The last tip is a basic one that is often one that people forget about the most.  Recycling is a simple thing that anyone can start.  The best advice is to know your local recycling program.  Make sure that everything you put in the recycling bin can actually be processed by your recycling facility.

All of these small steps can lead to a better environment for everyone to enjoy.  You can save money and energy while devoting to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle.
