Have you felt the desire to make a positive impact where you live? Perhaps you would prefer doing something that would make us a more cohesive community? In the Santa Clarita Valley we are fortunate to have a genuinely diversified population. We have many ethnic groups that live and work here, but you may be surprised to know that we also have a unique group of people with special needs, ages 16 and up, that have the same desire to participate in our community. Did you know that people with disabilities make up the largest single minority in the United States? One out of every five individuals has one or more disabilities. These are the “clients” that LETMESAIL strives to serve.
LETMESAIL (Lifestyle Enrichment through Meaningful Exercise, Social Activity, and Independent Living) began in 2005 and offers life-enhancing social, recreational, and educational programs for people with disabilities aged 16 and above. To meet their needs LETMESAIL has provided such activities as free or low cost educational trips, independent living skills classes such as money management, cooking lessons, filmmaking classes, bingo nights, dances, physical fitness training, flag football tournaments, and therapeutic art lessons. Special highlights of the past year included a week long trip to Mammoth Lakes, our 1st Annual New Year’s Eve Bon Voyage Ball fundraiser at the Valencia Hyatt, and our Cupid’s Ball Valentine dance.
In order to continue to provide quality programs, LETMESAIL could use your assistance. We would love to have you get on board with us and share your ideas and vision as we plot our course and sail into an even better 2008. We know many of you have been “touched” in one way or another in your life by a person with special needs. Would you please consider how you might be able to impact the lives of some of our friends? In doing so we know your life will also be greatly enriched. Volunteers are always needed for our events and activities. Year-round volunteer opportunities include planning and chaperoning activities, office help, soliciting in-kind donations, and of course fundraising. We welcome the input from Santa Clarita residents to help us chart our future course. Come aboard and help us sail into 2008! Together we can make a difference!
