Estate planning can be very intimidating for some people.  In fact, most people don’t know very much about the fundamentals of estate planning.  However, with a little education, you will be well on your way to understanding how estate planning can help you and your family.

On May 10, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., I will be presenting a free seminar entitled “Wills and Trusts” at Thrivent Financial, located at 26415 Carl Boyer Drive, Suite 160 in Santa Clarita.  Seating is very limited, and you can reserve a spot by calling Thrivent Financial at 661-295-9616.  Act quickly before all seats are gone.  The presentation should last about one hour.

We will be covering the fundamentals of estate planning and asking questions like: Who needs to do estate planning?  Why engage in estate planning?  What are the six most common methods of estate planning and what are the pros and cons of each method?  Of course, we will cover the basic differences betweens wills and trusts and much more.  We will also discuss the probate process and how it can be avoided.

We will talk about how to best take care of your minor children in the event of your incapacity or death.  We will discuss the dangers of doing no planning whatsoever as well as some of the unintended consequences of joint ownership (one of the most popular methods of holding title).  We will touch upon other issues including gifting assets away and avoiding capital gains taxes.

Thrivent Financial is a full service financial planning firm, and members of their staff will also be on hand to answer questions relating to life insurance, long-term care, disability insurance, financial planning, etc.  The estate planning seminar will be purely educational, and no selling of any kind will take place.  In other words, come learn about estate planning in a comfortable, no-pressure atmosphere.

Again, please call 661-295-9616 to reserve your spot.  I hope to see you there.  If you have any questions about the seminar itself, or you’d simply like to make an appointment to discuss creating or reviewing your estate plan, feel free to call my office directly at 661-414-7100.
