Have you set goals for 2008? Are you following through with them or do you fall in to a familiar pattern of breaking or giving up on these goals? This pattern can become tiresome and after twenty-five years of making goals and breaking them, I have freed myself of this cycle. I am now achieving my dreams.
What is most important to you? As I reflect upon this, my first thoughts are about my daughter. Following through with goals aids me in being a positive role model for her. My first goal was to know what I wanted my life to be and distinguish my dreams from the dreams, hopes and expectations of others. I wanted more joy in my life and I like working smarter not harder.
To achieve this I needed a break from friends, shopping, and the leash of an endlessly ringing cell phone. I focused on my dream and discarded all distractions. Making a list of activities I enjoy brought a smile to my face. I love the little things in life again. This is what it is supposed to be like!
Keeping it simple, I am fulfilled with more joy in my life. Another goal was to be a better mom. Every morning my daughter and I pick a positive affirmation such as, I am important or I am loved for who I am. I call it manifest your magnificence! At dinner we play an appreciation game. We tell each other how our day went and what we are grateful for, bringing us closer together. Don’t assume you know-ask!
One baby step at a time, I achieve my goals. It’s empowering. I ask myself everyday what I can do to be a better person. Removing stress from my life is key in achieving this. I de-stress by performing random acts of kindness. It can be as simple as going to Starbucks, buying a gift card and leaving it on someone’s car. I walk away with so much joy and an irreplaceable feeling.
What are you waiting for? Let’s keep it simple! Let’s make a joy list! I will give you the tools to achieve your dreams. Make 2008 great!
My deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who has been in my life. I give special thanks to B.J. Kaufman for her great writing and believing in me, also to Valerie Emmert for her awesome customer service.
