The recent earthquake in China and cyclone in Myanmar remind us how much damage a natural disaster can cause and reinforce our need to be ready for the earthquake that we know will hit Southern California.  On Thursday June 12 at 6:30 pm, at Vincenzo’s Pizza, 24504 1/2 Lyons Blvd, Movies-to-Talk-About will show the video “LA’s Earthquakes”, followed by a presentation telling how we can prepare for it.  The video discusses the discovery of an additional fault system underlying the Los Angeles area, and brings up the possibility that “The Big One” could very well overwhelm emergency service, leaving us to our own devices to ensure the safety of our families.

Ed Bushman, LAFD’s Battalion Chief for Disaster Preparedness, will present steps each of us should take to prepare for this eventuality.  Let’s learn together what we can do to keep ourselves, and our loved ones, safe.  Movies-to-Talk-About is a presented as a community service by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Santa Clarita Valley.  This congregation offers a spiritual home for religious free thinkers, drawing upon the teachings of many of the world’s faiths to help individuals build their own theology.

Unitarian Universalists of SCV hold church services each Sunday, 10:30 a.m., at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., in Newhall.  For directions and further information, visit www.UUofSCV.org or call 661-254-7866.
