Liz Hodson Has Found It!
Do you ever ask yourself, am I qualified to be a parent? I find it very interesting that we need experience to work in the corporate world, yet no one asks us when we go to the hospital and find out we’re pregnant “Do you have any experience with parenting? Do you need some help?” As we grow and mature through life, we are met with new challenges such as friendships, intimate relationships and parenting. While some of these skills are instinctual, many of them are learned. Where do we learn these skills?
We take on all these jobs after we say the words “I do.” We’re spouses, caretakers, accountants, parents and many other things. And yet still no one asks for our resume. When I gave birth to my daughter, I was always concerned with what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. Was I being a bad mother? And now I step back and ask myself “According to whose rules?” Sometimes it seems that once we have children, we should somehow already know all the rules. The truth is, like anything else in life, being the best parent you can be requires some guidance.
I remember going to school and learning my one-two-three’s and the ABC’s, but I don’t remember learning how to balance a checkbook or change a diaper let alone be in a relationship. What is a relationship? What is intimacy? What is friendship? My gosh, where did I get my experience and who taught me? These are all questions we ask ourselves again and again, struggling to find answers. I think at times we just need to give ourselves a break. If we’re running into the same walls with our kids, and our relationship is not 100 percent, we have a choice to make a change today. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, in fact, a little guidance from Life Coach Liz is guaranteed to give you the solutions you need for your challenging parent questions.
