Do you suffer from high blood pressure?  Did you know studies have shown that chiropractic care can actually help reduce blood pressure?  A recent study has shown chiropractic to be as effective at lowering blood pressure as some conventional drug therapies.  Now you may be able to take advantage of a healthy, safe form of treatment to naturally lower your blood pressure, without the potential risk of negative side effects or dangerous drug interactions.

Many people think of chiropractic as a means of treating pain.  You probably know how effective chiropractic treatment can be for people with low back pain, neck pain, even headaches, migraines, and carpal tunnel syndrome.  What you might not know is that chiropractic physicians and their patients have experienced a wide variety of health benefits that go well beyond the treatment of pain.  Patients with conditions such as sinus issues, ear infections, digestive issues, bed wetting, fibromyalgia, autism and as the following study shows, blood pressure; often show signs of improvement with regular chiropractic treatment.

A study at the University of Chicago hypertension center found that adjusting the upper neck can reduce blood pressure by up to 14 systolic points (the upper number), and eight diastolic points (the lower number).  According to the study, this dramatic drop in blood pressure is normally achieved by the use of two antihypertensive drugs given in combination.  The study took place over the course of eight weeks, with 50 patients, 25 of which received chiropractic adjustments and 25 who received sham adjustments.  The patients who received the chiropractic adjustments showed a marked drop in blood pressure as noted above.  Also of note was the complete absence of any adverse events or side effects.

As promising as this study was, it is just “the tip of the iceberg,” there is still much more to learn.  We need more studies and research like the one cited above to identify the powerful effects chiropractic can have on the whole body, and to scientifically confirm what chiropractors and their patients have known for years; with  regular treatment, this form of health care can be of benefit in treating many health care issues.  Although people tend to think of chiropractic as a treatment for pain, the beneficial effect it has on the entire body can be dramatic.
