• Every few days and on windy days, empty skimmer baskets and pool sweep baskets of any debris that has collected.
• Skim the surface of the pool with a net to clear the pool of any floating debris that can clog the skimmers and filter.
• Brush the walls and steps of the pool at least once a week.
• Be proactive. Listen to your pool equipment. Is it running smoothly and quietly? Is there any excessive pump noise? Look at your pool equipment, is water leaking from anywhere? Contact your pool maintenance company if anything seems to be wrong.
• Keep your pool equipment up to date. Any pump that needs repair, that is more than seven or eight years old should be replaced. The newer models are more efficient and can save you a substantial amount of money on your energy bill, while saving energy and helping the environment. Better circulation means better filtration and fewer chemical requirements.
• Check the pressure gauge. If your pressure gauge is not working, replace it. The filter pressure indicates that the pool filter is clean or that it needs to be cleaned. High pressure causes an unnecessary strain on the pool pump and a less efficient filtering system.
• Periodically, have a pool supply store test your pool water. Have them do a full water analysis to keep you informed of the condition of the water, and ask for suggestions to correct possible errors if needed. Testing your pool water periodically, can help to ensure that you don’t end up with a green pool.
