Weight Loss Centers is pleased to announce the addition of two new General and Bariatric Surgeons to the group, Dr. Shahram Salimitari and Dr. Dana Osborne.  Dr. Salimitari completed a Bariatrics and Laparoscopic Fellowship at the University of South Florida.  During training, his research focused on the role of Bariatric Surgery in patients with prior renal transplantation.  He specifically focused on the technical aspects of operating on this patient population and the management of postoperative immunosuppressive therapy.

Dr. Osborne also completed her training in General Surgery at the University of South Florida, where she completed a fellowship in Immunology and Immunotherapeutics.  She is currently an Investigator on a clinical trial funded by National Cancer Institutes examining a novel treatment modality for patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer.  In addition, she also published clinical manuscripts on the laparoscopic management of gastrointestinal diseases.

While at the University of South Florida, Drs. Salimitari and Osborne received extensive training in Advanced Laparoscopy, Bariatrics and Surgical Oncology.  As recent additions to the Weight Loss Centers, group, their major clinical interests lie in the surgical management for obesity, and both specialize in the LapBand™ system.

According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity affects the majority of adults in the United States, with over two-thirds being categorized as either overweight or obese.  There is a 10 to 15 percent increased risk of death in obese patients from all causes when compared to healthy weight individuals, especially death due to cardiovascular disease.
Weight Loss Centers, has cultivated a practice that approaches patients with obesity on multiple levels.  In addition to having surgeons, such as Drs. Salimitari and Osborne, who focus on Weight-Loss Surgery, the group also includes Plastic Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Internists, Orthopedic Surgeons and Urogynecologists who are able to address many issues that are specific to patients with obesity.

It is that comprehensive approach to patient care that brought Drs. Salimitari and Osborne to Weight Loss Centers. They have experience in the surgical management of this patient population and appreciate the specialized needs of those who suffer with obesity.  Both are caring, compassionate, well-trained surgeons who are eager to help patients not only fight, but also win their battles with weight.
