Staff, physicians and volunteers at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital are celebrating this week and for good cause! This week marks the hospital’s 33rd year of providing quality, compassionate healthcare to the Santa Clarita community.
Henry Mayo opened its doors on August 15, 1975 amid farmland and rural communities with 100 beds. Since then, just as the Santa Clarita Valley has grown in population and number of businesses, the hospital has increased its healthcare services and number of patient beds to meet community needs. Today, the hospital includes 221 patient beds and more than 1,200 employees.
“Our hospital was built to serve a much smaller population than exists in Santa Clarita today,” said Roger Seaver, president and CEO for Henry Mayo. “During the last three decades, there’s been some incredible growth and development in the community. As a result, we’ve added beds and expanded and improved many of our services, such as a larger emergency department and leading-edge imaging technology, to meet the community’s healthcare needs.”
Seaver added that Henry Mayo’s expansion projects currently underway include the addition of 27 more hospital beds, enhanced imaging services, a dedicated cardiac catheterization lab, a new and larger intensive care unit (ICU), and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In addition, the next phase of the emergency department expansion, which began last month and includes adding 2,600 square feet to the existing ED for a new patient lobby and nurse’s station, will increase patient-care space and add seven new patient beds for a total of 25.
“Not only will the expansion significantly enhance the look, feel and efficiency of the ED, it will also increase patient privacy,” stated Vivian Rebel, RN, director of emergency services and trauma. “The ED is often the front door of our hospital for many patients, and we want to make a positive first impression.”
“The hospital has changed during the last 33 years,” said Roger Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo. “But our mission to improve the health of our community through compassion and excellence in healthcare services remains the same. We look forward to providing quality healthcare for 33 more years and well into the future.”
Today, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is a 221-bed not-for-profit community hospital governed by a local board of directors that serves without compensation. It is the only hospital in the Santa Clarita Valley and offers a wide range of health services for communities in northern Los Angeles County.
Hospital staff, volunteers and physicians celebrated the hospital’s 33rd anniversary with cake and ice cream on August 15.
