It has been said that there is power in numbers. Belief in this theory has been derived from detailed research on elections, major historical conflicts, and major historical advancements. However, more than numbers, I believe greater accuracy is found within the belief that there is power in unity. We would be surprised what we could accomplish as a people if we decided to work together instead of against each other. The real enemy is not my neighbor. The real enemy is that thing that tries to hinder all of us from moving forward. Whether we choose to believe it or not, the fact of the matter is that we were all created to need each other. There is a reason why your weakness is your friend’s or family member’s strength. The reason is because we were supposed to need each other. We were designed to work together, not to work against each other.
One of my favorite songs says, “I need you, you need me, we’re all apart of God’s body. Stand with me, agree with me, we’re all apart of God’s body. It is His will that every need be supplied. You are important to me. I need you to survive.” I know we love to claim our independence and proclaim that we don’t need anyone. But, as a people, that was never God’s intention. What would the hand be without the fingers? It’s interesting that you don’t realize how much you need your “pinky” finger until you’ve injured it to the point where you can no longer use it.
I’ll continue this commentary next month, but I want everyone who is reading this to understand that we do need each other. The power does not rest in numbers, it rests in unity.
