“Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world.” — Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
What is it about art that makes it so much a part of our daily lives? The next question is, “What is it that makes people choose one kind of art and not another?” In choosing a piece of art to buy, how do we make this decision? Have we studied the different periods of art and have an art education background to help us make our choices for purchasing a piece of art to own and display in our homes. Art is a universal language. Art is visual work that communicates an idea, expresses a feeling, or presents an interesting design. Will these parameters be what help people make decisions in choosing a piece of art?
There is the question of why artists create art? One motivation for making art, clearly, is to share uniquely human experiences. Art teaches us about ourselves and our environment. It also teaches us to see the beauty around us. Another reason for making art is specific to cultures. In many world cultures, art serves as a ceremonial or religious function. There are many reasons for creating art. People of all cultures create art. The most basic reason is that art is a powerful form of communication and creative self-expression.
For as long as there have been people, there has been art. The oldest known artworks are paintings found on the walls of caves years ago by early human cave dwellers. Since that time, art has been produced in every culture and throughout every age. As you begin to enter the world of art it is so vast that it has no boundaries. Imagine a place so varied that every step you take brings a new adventure. Your imagination will begin as you enter this wondrous place called the world of art. Now begin to have your first look at art. In the world of art, the only limits are those of the imagination. The only boundaries are those of creativity and skill. Begin now to learn what kind of art interests you.
