The month of October brings about many changes. This month we are celebrating our clergy. October is Pastor appreciation month. As members of the church, we sometimes forget the time commitments and sacrifices a pastor makes. This is even more true if they have a family. Our pastors give so much of their time to so many people. We often forget that they face many of the same obstacles in life as we do. They also face a lot of criticism from everywhere. Yet, we fail to make sure they are also told how much they are appreciated for what they do. It is a tireless job, a trying job, a rewarding job and I am sure they wouldn’t have it any other way. We also don’t want to forget their families. Especially their wives, who not only carry the responsibility of being a wife to their husband, but also a wife supporting her husband who spends a lot of his time and energy away from home giving to other people. Let’s be honest. There are a lot of us who need help with trying to figure out some of our problems. Some of us are having a hard time with our marriage, some of us not sure how to handle a situation with our children. Some of us may have just lost a loved one. When these situations arise we tend to go to our pastor not realizing that we are putting all of our personal challenges on them. It is a huge emotional weight for them to carry. Don’t forget about our youth Pastors, too. They are working with our children and helping them face issues that are pretty intense as well.
So, sometime this month take a moment and let your Pastor know how grateful you are for them. Send them a card or give them a gift card to their favorite restaurant. Maybe give something that their entire family can enjoy. If that is not possible, I am sure that a pure simple heart felt thank you for what you do would be something that will lift their spirits and encourage them to continue the work they are doing.
