Are you thinking of throwing a holiday party? With the holidays upon us, you will most certainly be invited to many events from neighborhood get-togethers to the standard office party. Want to make yours stand out? I have put together some ideas to help you create an unforgettable event without making the old spinach dip standby dish.
By the time you hit the party season, ham and turkey are old news. You will have a much higher turnout if you are known for creating something that is outside the box. Try an Asian/sushi themed party or an around the world cuisine for your guests to try. Setting up stations is also another way to add interest. Instead of having the typical cheese spread, create a wine and cheese pairing station. This keeps your guests interacting all while experiencing new flavors. Also popular are coffee bars that offer mix-and-match dessert wines or chocolate-covered “anything” stations with a variety of toppings.
Try having a “drink inspired” party. This could range from offering four or five different types of flavored martinis (like cranberry or apple martinis that sport holiday colors) to my husband’s personal favorite, a “beer around the world” party. Have each of your guests bring a different type of beer from a different part of the world and have a taste off. This is also a great idea for Super Bowl parties. For New Year’s, try a champagne and caviar party. It is always fun to splurge at the end of the year to welcome a new one.
Don’t forget the personal touches to your party. People eat with their eyes first. Therefore, having an attractive display filled with fresh flowers, herbs, nuts in shells, and Christmas greenery on food trays invites your guests to partake.
