It is important to correctly frame your collectibles using current conservation techniques, which will display them aesthetically as well as preserve their beauty and value.  A professional picture framer who knows his or her business will be able to help you select the correct color combinations and pick out the appropriate custom framing that will really set off and enhance your personal treasures.
Using acid-free museum quality mat boards and framing materials is imperative to the preservation of documents, printed artwork, and other important and valuable items involving paper and other media.

This includes using acid-free backing board and triangular acid-free corner holders, which allow no adhesive to directly contact the art.

Another ingredient to doing correct preservation work is using glass or acrylic that has UV filtering properties so as to keep out Ultraviolet light and prevent fading.  A high quality acrylic “glass” sheet with UV filtering is recommended here in Southern California because of the threat of earthquakes, as acrylic is very close to unbreakable and is likely to save the art or collectible from damage due to shattered glass should the frame fall.

We have been using UV-filtering acrylic on most custom framing jobs since 1987 and our customers have been very pleased, especially back in 1994, when the Northridge earthquake hit.  Both our own and their pieces were saved from major damage.  While many frame shops were repairing their customers’ damaged glass, and insurance companies were replacing gouged prints, we had very few repairs.  Most of them were framed elsewhere with regular glass that had broken.  We also had to fix a few where the wood had chipped or come apart.

Having your collectibles properly museum framed will maximize their value, extend their life, and will provide many years of enjoyment for you, your family and friends and to future generations.
