I received many phone calls after the segments discussing hormone replacement therapy were aired on the Oprah show. Each woman is unique and there isn’t a “one size fits all” answer.
Menopause is a time for a woman to focus on herself. Many of us have been busy for many years focusing on others. Menopause is “our time” to really listen to our bodies and make adjustments to be more in balance.
Working with a holistically trained clinician and looking at nutritional patterns, exercise and how we treat ourselves on all levels can be very insightful. Sometimes I do suggest “bio-identical” hormone replacement, but on other occasions I think of it as a last resort and not the first choice to address menopausal symptoms.
Helping a woman get her body back into balance so it can make the hormones her body needs seems like a healthier option to me. Because I have a holistic approach, that makes more sense to me rather than rushing into “medicating” with “bio-identical” hormones. To avoid bringing the body back into balance so it can make the hormones needed would be missing a huge piece in bringing balance to a woman’s life.
Thyroid issues are often present and when remedied, changes can be profound and rapid. The thyroid, adrenal glands and ovaries are very connected and when one is out of balance the others usually don’t function as they should, creating uncomfortable symptoms. Adjusting these connections allows the body to make what it needs to be nourished and healthy.
We are living longer now than ever before. The dietary abuses we subject our bodies to cause menopause to be the time when we must stop, listen and make changes. They call it the “change,” and it’s the time to make changes for the better!
Salivary testing is often more accurate than serum (blood) testing and along with dietary intervention, lifestyle modification and nutritional approaches to support weakened body systems, menopause can be the most powerful, happiest and most fulfilling time in a woman’s life.
