Other than the question water – you can live with; perhaps the real question is can you live without it?
Elementary School Science teaches all of us the concept of the Hydrologic Cycle where the fact is established that Water that existed thousands of years ago continually is used and then returned again and again for our use.  Until 20th Century technology established modern reclamation capabilities through membrane technology the only water available on the planet was that which nature replenished continually through the Hydrologic Cycle.  And, for centuries that was enough.
We all know that we cannot survive without water.  Our bodies require it and the food we grow depends on it.  Centers of population cannot be established and grow without a continuing source of water.  Where Southern California is concerned the foresight of water industry leaders saw the necessity of bringing water from outside the Southern California area in order to establish a strong economic base and support the growing population that now our neighbors call home.  The Colorado River Aqueduct, the California Canal that brings water through the Delta to the Southland and the Owens Valley Aqueduct that brings water to Los Angeles are all testaments to not only engineering marvels but resourceful planning for the future.  And, the future is now; the present.

At the same time, the water imported for our use is not specific in its constituents for specific uses in a modern society.  Water that is good for general purposes such as irrigation and life supporting cannot meet specific needs for appliance use and protection.  And, as it travels many miles to get here it also picks up many qualities that are not desirable for home use.  Hard Water Scaling is one of the more significant impacts of the general purpose water provided today.  Contaminants are another element that are best removed from the water prior to use for drinking and cooking.

Your personal use of water is important.  The investment you have made in your water using appliances is protected with proper water treatment.  The water provided through filtration provides your family with protection against unwanted contaminants and chlorine as well.  Even with the Water Softener Ban and Removal program throughout the Santa Clarita Valley you do have choices.
