So here we are, ending the first quarter of 2009. Time is going by so fast I wonder how many of us are still putting the automatic water softener issue on the back burner. June 1 is rapidly approaching and that is the deadline to avoid prosecution and fines.
I would again encourage our readers that may have questions and do not fully understand the what’s, when and whys regarding the ban to please call me. I will be happy to speak with you and help clarify what the LA County Sanitation Districts position is.
The What: All automatic softeners in Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch and, Castaic that drain to the districts sewer lines, must be removed!
The When: By June 1.
The Why: Purely environmental. The excessive chlorides we are dumping into the sewer lines and out the waste treatment plants are not flora friendly. Simply put, it can be damaging to the crops, plants and trees that are receiving this reclaimed water. As time goes on, we are focusing more on using this reclaimed water for irrigation and preserving our water resources for domestic and residential use. As many people are appreciating what a great place the SCV is to live and raise their families, preserving our primary water supply is becoming more and more critical.
Our population will continue to increase, ideally in a slow and orderly progression, and the steps we are taking today to safeguard all or our resources will be appreciated be our grandchildren and their successive generations to come. Like any long-term investment, the rewards are not immediate but, are worth the wait.
I welcome all to join me in this endeavor and focus the benefits the water treatment options available today can offer us compared to what we have been used to. And just a reminder, March is the final month for me to offer my customers that 25 percent difference in the pro-rated rebate that was lost after December 31, 2008. Again, thank you and good health to all.
