With a focus on providing customer service programs that enhance patient and guest experiences, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital has announced it now offers free wireless Internet access services.
Wireless Internet access provides patients, visitors, physicians and vendors the ability to keep in touch and in contact via a laptop, PDA, ITouch, and Iphone. The free service will be available in the hospital lobby, family waiting rooms and patient rooms.

The new service is part of the hospital’s effort to make the facility more computer-friendly to the public.

“We live in an era of instant access,” commented Cindy Peterson, Henry Mayo’s chief information officer. “We definitely see this new service as one of many benefits we try to offer to our customers who are visiting or staying at the hospital.”

According to Peterson, the wireless access is an extension of the Information Technology department’s priority to offer high-tech services and computer advancements throughout Henry Mayo, such as electronic signatures for the physician’s dictated reports.

Due to the confidential nature of conducting business in a healthcare facility users will be required to accept a liability statement upon entry to the wireless network. Some limitations will be in place for accessing certain web sites, and the hospital will use a content filtering firewall to avoid exposure to certain computer viruses. Also, users will be unable to print while using the hospital’s wireless services.
