Well with the recent temperatures I am sure that we all can agree that spring has officially sprung!  The flowers are blooming and all of this energy gives us a chance to start with our “spring cleaning.”  This year however, I decided that it was time to take a different approach and clean up and organize my new Mac!  I recently upgraded my Mac laptop and in doing so realized that I faced some issues.  My last Mac I had for over three years “and it was used heavily!” In that time I have accumulated a lot of files.  Not only documents, but my mail, contacts, music, movies, etc. etc. etc.  In looking over all of this data I had a thought, “wouldn’t it be great if I could have one place where all of my files could be managed by how they relate to one another?”  For example, if I could see my sisters contact information and on the same page be able to see all of the e-mails, letters, photo’s, music that we have shared or are related instead of constantly searching through folders for these things!

Well I found a solution and it’s called a Database.  Many of you may have heard this term before but like myself didn’t know that much about them or thought that you needed special skills to use or create one.  A Database is an application that allows you to create “links” between any files that you have on your computer.  The truth is that now there are databases that are easier than ever to use and are designed specifically for your personal data.  I chose one called Bento.  It was designed for the Mac computer and has a very easy to understand interface.  It allows me to create custom templates that keep just about anything I want organized and easy to find.   With my contacts for example, I can click on someone’s name and on the same page I can place anything that I want in relation to the person, e-mails, letters, pictures etc.  I love to think about the time it now saves me searching for things.  There are a few options out there and what I suggest to all of you Mac enthusiasts is to stop by your local Mactalk store to talk things over with an Apple Specialist.  We can help explain to you your different options as well as the latest and greatest things that Apple has come out with.  Come visit your local Mactalk Family and as always, we can help you get the most from your Mac!  Now I have to get to work on my other “spring cleaning” chores!
