The stars were out as Santa Clarita’s best came to shimmy and shake the night away at the first ever Dancing with Our Stars event at the Valencia Hyatt. On Saturday, April 18, twelve couples showcased their dance routines and competed in front of a sold-out crowd of over 350 guests! Professional dance instructors paired up with Santa Clarita’s own and performed an exciting dance routine, all to raise money for the non-profit organizations they represented. Celebrity guest judge Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Lorena Bravo and Joshua J. Becket judged the dancing duos, and guests had the opportunity to cast money votes using script. Those who were not able to attend the event were able to pledge money via proxy votes and show their support. After the proxy votes, script and judge scores were tallied and presented by CPA Steve Chegwin, the winners were announced. The crowd cheered loudly as our very own, Moe Hafizi and dancing partner Sheyla Cintron, representing the Senior Center, took home the night’s top prize! Coming in second was Bob Hudson and dancing partner Trish Teagle, who waltzed for the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Taking third was Jacquie Petersen who partnered with Tony Newhall and danced for the Soroptimist International of Greater SCV. The event proved to be a success as over $78,000 was raised for our local non-profit organizations. Thank you to all the participants who helped make this event successful!
