The modern Mother’s Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis as a day for each family to honor its mother.  Ironically the country’s greatest proponent of motherhood never had children of her own.  Yet that didn’t stop her from making the celebration of Mother’s Day her lifelong mission.
I think this is even more evidence that my wife is correct in her belief that women are, “the gift-givers of the world.”  In fact, I believe Mother’s Day should be a celebration of all women since it is their contributions that have made this world a more civilized place in which to live.

Our shop, Rooms & Blooms, has catered to the gift-givers of the world for over 15 years and tried to stay true to the philosophy of master-retailer Marshall Fields. It was Mr. Field’s who directed his stores and staff to, “give the lady what she wants.”

Magnet boards have become the  “Instant Attraction” at Rooms & Blooms.  These are metal boards that feature a wide variety of graphics and come with magnets that allow one to attach photos, reminders, recipes, business cards and more. Patterns include the ever-favorite fleur de lis as well as peace signs, original artwork, and floral and animal prints to name a few.

For Mother’s Day Rooms & Blooms can create a personalized magnet board that features a photo of mom’s family or loved ones.  Customers simply e-mail their desired photo or bring one by the shop on Lyons Avenue.  Each magnet board comes with brass “findings” that are fashioned into magnets and are in the shape of fleur de lis, shells, crosses, doves and more.  It’s a gift that mom will cherish and use for years.

Moms also love our live English Ivy topiaries.  These hearty plants come in several different shapes and sizes, are easy to maintain for and can last for years with the proper care.

Just about all ladies like jewelry.  You’ll find the perfect thing at Rooms & Blooms, whether it be sterling silver initial necklaces or whimsical “peace sign” rings.  A rule of thumb for guys – just about all ladies like earrings.

There’s one other thing men should be aware of, if they aren’t already.  “When momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy!”
