It is important to understand that quitting is actually a sign of success. Quitting is a sign that you are actually doing something. How do I know? Because in order to quit something, you have to have something to quit. People who aren’t doing anything, what are they going to quit — the couch? The very fact that you have something to quit means that you are doing something. The issue is really one of perception. The easiest way to hang in there and not give up is to adapt the proper perception of your situation. Allow me to help shape your perception of your situation. The fact of the matter is that there is no such thing as failure. Anytime a situation does not work out the way you intended, you did not fail, but rather, you succeeded at discovering another way in which something does not work. I am told that when Thomas Edison was working on the light bulb, several people around him were trying to encourage him to give up because they had witnessed hundreds of attempts to create the light bulb that proved unsuccessful. They questioned his desire to proceed having experienced so many failures. Mr. Edison informed them that he had not failed, but rather succeeded time and time again in discovering ways in which a light bulb will not work. This is the perception we should adapt.
Listen, you have never failed, you have only succeeded at discovering ways in which something does not work. So with that said, let me tell you something. It is always too soon to quit.
