In the old part of Newhall, near Green Thumb Nursery, is Tortas Ahogadas Las Originales, or better known as T.A.L.O. The local restaurant brings to your table a wide variety of authentic foods and desserts from the state of Guadalajara, Mexico.
Las Originales translates to “the originals,” which goes hand in hand with our food, one of a kind and of course, original.
With our perfected seasoned beefs, that are made to order, and our real fruit drinks such as mango and strawberry, you won’t be able to help but come back for more. We started as a simple carry out restaurant. Our customers continued to put good comments on Yelp.com, Tortas Ahogadas Las Originales, and helped us transform into a casual dining restaurant.
Owners Gerardo Robledo and Francisco Negrete have been in the restaurant business for over nine years and continue to bring great tasting Mexican food at affordable prices.
Our menu offers variety from a simple Asada Taco to a large “Molcajete” and a full line of desserts. The “Molcajete” is served in a lava rock bowl with chicken, beef, chorizo, white cheese, shrimp, yellow peppers, grilled onions and our hot sauce. If requested, the sauce can be changed to mild.
All of our meats are freshly grilled and everything on our menu is made from scratch. No precooking or prepackaging.
Around the U.S., some states have their own specialty that distinguishes them from the rest. The Philly cheese steak from Philadelphia, tri-tip from New York and even Dodger dogs from Dodger Stadium are all examples. Here in Newhall, we have created a specialty that is unique to the rest.
We bring specialty food from one of the central states in Mexico, Guadalajara straight to Newhall. One of our T.A.L.O traditional recipes is the Torta Ahogada, which is our drowned sandwich.
The popular dish in Mexico is sourdough bread smothered with refried beans and filled with fresh cooked carnitas. Then we take the sandwich and soak it with tomato sauce and top it off with seasoned onion, but not to leave out our special hot sauce, flavored to your taste. Customers that have indulged into the Torta Ahogada always return for more.
Don’t forget to add a bowl of our house specialty chili. Why not take a drowned sandwich to a soccer game? Even though it might be messy, this great tasting sandwich doesn’t have to be tied to the table.
