Cutting back on spending, shouldn’t include cutting back on health.  Right now, we’re dealing with more stress than ever, yet we’re doing less to alleviate it.  It’s easy to forget about our health when we’re bombarded with reminders of the “state of the economy.”
In truth, taking care of yourself doesn’t require a lot of money.  Simple things, like a bike ride or taking a walk, can ease some of the tension built up during the day.  Exercise increases endorphins which produce a sense of well being and work as “natural pain relievers.”  Exercising regularly can also help boost energy levels.  So, the next time you think you are too tired to fit a workout into your day, just remember that a workout today will increase your mood and energy level tomorrow.

Proper nutrition is at least as important to your health as exercise.  But when we stress out, we tend to not have the energy to cook at home.  We think we’re taking the easy route by picking up cheap, “fast” food, but we’re actually stepping into a vicious cycle.  Poor nutrition creates a greater decrease of energy, which in turn will have us making the wrong diet choices once again.  Purchasing healthy sensible groceries and cooking at home can help you stay happy, healthy, and within your budget.

Another great way to keep the body running strong is to get regular massages.  Our bodies require maintenance in order to run smoothly, and “maintenance” is how we should classify Massage Therapy in our lives and our budgets.  When one system of the body starts to shut down, eventually every other system will follow.  Massage helps the body heal itself.  Among many other benefits, massage can improve sleep, reduce pain and anxiety, and boost the immune system.  Quality of life is what we all desire and Massage Therapy can truly help us achieve that.  Just like fitness and nutrition, we all have room to budget for massage.  First off, it is in fact possible to find an incredible Massage Therapist with affordable rates.  Also, although 60 to 90 minutes are ideal, at nearly half the price, a 30-minute massage is very effective for reducing stress.  Between better diet, regular exercise, and massage, we can get through these hard times with a more focused mind, positive attitude, and a healthier body.  After all, everything else is insignificant, if we don’t first have our health.
