The City of Santa Clarita’s Transit Division will hold two workshops for community seniors on the new Senior TAP Card (Transit Access Pass) Program application process. The first workshop took place in June and the second workshop will be held on July 8 at the SCV Senior Center in Activity Room 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for local seniors 60 years of age and older.
All City of Santa Clarita Transit routes will officially transition to TAP on Wednesday, July 1. Santa Clarita seniors must fill out an application to receive a TAP card. The City will hold the workshops at the SCV Senior Center to answer questions about the new technology and assist local seniors in filling out Senior TAP Card Program applications properly.
“We are anticipating a lot of questions about the TAP program- not just from senior citizens, but community members as a whole,” said Councilmember Marsha McLean. “As an application has never before been required for senior Transit riders, the Senior TAP Card Program workshops will help to provide one-on-one assistance to community seniors, keeping them as informed as possible about the application process and the TAP Program as a whole.”
All workshop attendees must bring a photo I.D. and proof of age in order to apply for a TAP card. The City will bring two mobile carts to the workshops to process applications, print TAP cards and answer questions for attendees. The Senior TAP Card Program makes it easier for senior Transit riders to qualify for reduced fares on TAP transit operators in Los Angeles County. Seniors who qualify for Reduced Fare TAP cards are automatically enrolled in the TAP Balance Protection Program, which replaces lost or stolen cards.
TAP cards are now available for purchase and will eventually replace all Santa Clarita paper passes, reducing waste and freeing riders from hauling around exact change. With TAP, riders “tap” the farebox with their card when it’s time to ride.
The SCV Senior Center is located at 22900 Market Street. For more information on the City’s Senior TAP Card Program workshops at the SCV Senior Center, please contact the City’s Transit Division at 661-295-6300 or visit www.santa-clarita.com .
