On Saturday, May 30, the American Cancer Society kicked off their Relay for Life “Celebrating 25 Years of Hope” at Central Park in Saugus. Thousands were in attendance as many cancer survivors and supporters came together for this overnight event. It began with the Opening Ceremony and Survivor Lap around the track at Central Park. Throughout the day many teams gathered at various locations taking turns walking or running laps. The inspirational Luminaria Ceremony was held in the evening. Bags of candles were lit in honor of those battling cancer, those who’ve passed away from cancer as well as caregivers – all who represent someone who has been affected by the disease. The Luminaria Ceremony also included uplifting messages of hope from various speakers. The Fight Back / Closing Ceremony held on Sunday morning, ended yet another successful overnight event for the ACS Relay for Life, raising approximately $540,000 to date.
