Not every woman will have the opportunity during her lifetime to dine at the White House or attend a high-society gala—but if one of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild’s Silver Rose Debutantes does, she’ll have the knowledge and confidence necessary to successfully see her through.

For that matter, she’ll be able to plan the event!

Debutante 1.pngHenry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild established its debutante program in 1985 to help raise funds for the hospital as well as provide opportunities for young women to grow socially and personally.

Since then, more than 250 young women have experienced personal and social enrichment as Silver Rose Debutantes and built life-long friendships. Today, many of those same young women are now encouraging their daughters to join the program.

As a Silver Rose Debutante, girls develop poise and learn skills that increase their confidence in handling social, academic and business encounters, from formal dining events to preparation for college or the working world. And, each debutante has shared a fairy-tale evening with their family and friends when the Debutante Program culminates with the formal Silver Rose Debutante Ball.

The debutante program requires 50 hours of community service, attending hospital fundraisers, and participating in exciting social events, including a Presentation Tea, Fall Fashion Show, Mother/Daughter Tea, and the much anticipated and elegant Silver Rose Debutante Ball.  The first half of the Debutante season deals with the acquisition of new skills and knowledge while the second half allows young ladies to put into action everything they have learned.

Along with learning about social responsibility, communication, and proper etiquette, Debutantes are also now eligible for the Shelley L. Hann Education Scholarship. This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for the graduating Debutantes to receive support to further their education

This $2,500 scholarship is open to all Silver Rose Debutantes who have a minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 and are applying to and will be a student of a college, vocational or trade school within a year.  The scholarship is awarded to one Debutante at the Sunday Farewell Breakfast the morning following the Ball.

Applications for the 2009 to 2010 Henry Mayo Guild Silver Rose Debutante program are currently being accepted.  Funds that are raised from the Debutante program benefit Laboratory Services.
