Dr. Amy Wagner, Canyon Country pediatrician, took top honors at the Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley’s first annual Fiesta Poker Texas Hold’em tournament Saturday night, June 6 at the Westridge Horizon Clubhouse. Dr. Wagner’s husband, Paolo Hernandez, also landed a seat at the final table.
With first prize being a $1,500 seat at a future WSOP tournament and a two-night stay in Las Vegas, the event drew more than 100 players and spectators from as far away as San Diego. Keep your fingers crossed for Dr. Wagner who will be playing in the WSOP tournament at the Rio in Las Vegas on June 24 and 25.
Tacos, coronas and margaritas added to the south of the border theme and guests were overheard saying, “these are the best tacos I’ve ever tasted.” Maria from Marcos Catering pleased the crowd with authentic homemade tacos, beans, rice and all the fixings. Before the night was over, guests were already asking, “When’s the next tournament?”
Not being shy about raising money for their cause, the Soroptimists were quick to hand out Save the Date cards for their upcoming fall fundraiser to be held Sunday, October 4 at the TPC and told everyone, “Come to our Bras for a Cause and we’ll tell you when the next poker tournament is scheduled.”
SISCV would like to thank all of their sponsors and donors for making this event so successful and so much fun. Without a doubt a good time was had by all.
This high-energy fundraiser brought in more than $16,000 which the club will use to deliver on its mission of helping to improve the lives of women and girls locally and around the world.
