Climb aboard, sit back and relax, be waited on, or put on your dancin’ shoes, party and make merry aboard one of Fillmore & Western Railway Co.’s summer dinner trains. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is the most popular as you guess “who dun it?” Dancing and dining are features of other summer dinner trains such as Shake, Rattle & Rail, Margarita Madness, and the Wine Express.
If you want to kick up your heels or dazzle your guest with a creative night to remember, climb aboard one of our themed dinner trains. Shake, Rattle & Rail departs on the first Friday night of the month at 5:30 p.m. During the one-hour train trip west, a 50s diner menu is served. Once in Santa Paula, attend the car show on Main Street, featuring 100 customized classic cars. Re-board the train at 8 p.m. and during the trip back to Fillmore, a zoot-suited DJ will have you dancin’ to the oldies in the dance car.
For a bit of Latin flavor, Margarita Madness features a sumptuous Mexican meal, accompanied by a Margarita. After dinner, dance on the open-air dance car to the sounds of a live band. Saturday,August 22 and September 26, are the last of these popular summer dinner party trains.
On Sundays, July through September and November, the newest themed train is the Wine and Honey Express. The train departs Central Park in downtown Fillmore for the Loose Caboose and then onto Bennett’s Honey Farm, east of Fillmore. On the Wine and Honey Express, when a meal is purchased in the 1928 Powhatan Parlor and Dining car, complimentary wine tasting is provided along with a complimentary Fillmore & Western dessert aptly named Honey and Lime Strawberries.
The most popular dinner train during the railroad’s 13-year history has been the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. Each mystery is a comedy, nothing serious about our murders. A fine dinner is served as the actors involve guests and give clues throughout the evening to “solve” the murder(s).
Weekend scenic excursions with open-air cars run to Santa Paula and the Loose Caboose Garden Center and Gift Emporium every Saturday through September.
