Many times, when we have digestive problems, there are very simple and free ways to help manage them. It may be as simple as using these few “Food Combining Principles.” Eat fruit alone, never with any other foods.
Eat melons alone, not with other fruits. They digest rapidly and will ferment if combined with slower digesting foods. Eat proteins and carbohydrates at different meals and with lots of vegetables. Do not eat proteins and carbohydrates together. Proteins and carbohydrates require different conditions in the stomach in order to properly digest. When eaten together, neither will digest well. Consuming more than one protein at a meal is hard on the digestive system. Avoid dairy. When eaten, it should be eaten alone. It combines poorly with other foods. Do not drink liquids with or within a half an hour of finishing a meal. They will dilute your digestive juices and further inhibit digestion.
Fats inhibit the digestion of proteins. When eaten together, a mixed vegetable salad or lots of leafy greens will help to balance the digestive environment. Choose raw foods over cooked foods (except for meat). Limit processed foods, sugar, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, and dairy. Use animal products sparingly, if at all.
