We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Brian R. Gross will be joining our practice. Dr. Gross is familiar to the residents of Santa Clarita, having practiced here for 25 years. Dr. Gross is a native of Los Angeles, graduated from UCLA, and received his medical degree from UC Davis. After completing a residency in Ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, he returned to Southern California and opened his practice in Valencia in 1984. Dr. Gross is a well-respected ophthalmologist and is known for the personal attention that he dedicates to his patients. Dr. Gross will continue to see his patients and deliver the same high-level care to which they have become accustomed.
Dr. Helm and Dr. Gross have been working together with mutual patients since 2002. Together they will be able to provide enhanced continuity of care to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond. Dr. Gross will concentrate his practice on diagnosing and treating ocular disease, while Dr. Helm will focus more on ocular surgery and treatment of corneal disease. Both Dr. Helm and Dr. Gross will continue to treat glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and inflammatory eye disease and together provide a full spectrum of eye care.
Helm Vision Group provides the residents of Santa Clarita with the most state of the art facility in the region. Our practice philosophy is to combine superior diagnostic acumen with excellent communication to help you understand what you are dealing with and work together to find solutions. In the “old days,” many doctors were accustomed to making treatment decisions without the patient’s input or understanding. The doctor’s instructions went unchallenged with little communication. Today, the medical environment has changed greatly. Patients expect, and deserve to have a thorough explanation about what is known about their condition. Patients should have their questions answered and to be included in the decision-making process, once they have an understanding of their situation. With information easily available through the Internet, many patients will take the initiative to do their own research. It is common however, for misinformation to be widely disseminated online. Our role as physicians is to help the patient by debunking what is false and helping the patient to put the information gathered into proper perspective. To be most effective, a physician today should consider the physician-patient relationship a true partnership.
