On Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Valencia Library, the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) presents Scott Bruckner, next in a series of art lectures entitled 60 Minutes with an Artist.
Bruckner, a contemporary sculptor, creates his art from found objects, milled lumber and copper.  Each piece is free standing from six to eight feet in height and is finished to become a central part of a contemporary home.  Much of his work includes curved wood, which is retrieved from lumber retailers in warped condition, and then is treated and bent further for a dramatic affect.  The rich grain is enhanced, with either a smooth or rough finish.  Some pieces are elegant while others are whimsical.  Some are in the nautical theme; still others follow a musical theme.  In 2008 he introduced stained glass into his sculpture.

“I like to use Douglas fir because of its bending tendency,” says Bruckner.  An active member and past president of SCAA and member of International Sculpture Center, Bruckner was also chosen for the Newsmaker of the Week—a television show presented by The SCV Press Club, Time Warner Cable and hosted by Leon Worden.  His work won the first place awards for Sculpture in the independently judged 2003, 2004, and another award in 2008 SCAA Art Classic.  His work is available on line at www.brucknerart.com .

Plan to come for Bruckner’s lecture in the Community Room in the Valencia Library, located at 23743 West Valencia Boulevard in Santa Clarita.

These lectures are free to the public and all ages are welcomed.  For additional information, please visit the SCAA webpage at www.santaclaritaartists.org .
