The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to view the Art Challenge, the latest installment of the City’s Public Art Exhibits featured at the Westfield Valencia Town Center. The exhibit is available for viewing now through January 12, 2010 and features one of a kind art pieces created by local artists using materials exclusively from stores in the Town Center mall.
The City of Santa Clarita’s Arts Advisory Committee chose six local artists to be featured in the challenge. Each artist was assigned to a specific retailer in the mall to create a one-of-a-kind art piece using materials comprised exclusively of materials from their designated store. Local artist Erin Scott was assigned to the Sweet Factory; Nicholas Fedak II to No Fear; Diane Foderaro to Puzzle Place; Daryl Bibicoff to Utopia; LT Mustardseed to Just Paws; and Scott Bruckner to White House/Black Market.
“The Art Challenge at the Westfield Valencia Town Center gives local artists the chance to showcase how one-of-a-kind art pieces can be created with limited materials,” said Mayor Frank Ferry. “The six exhibits also give residents the opportunity to view exceptional art in a centralized location.”
Additional City Public Art Exhibits are scheduled to take place throughout the year across Santa Clarita, including events at City Hall’s First Floor Gallery, public spaces and more.
