Hart High’s award-winning marching band and colorguard, Hart Regiment, received top awards in its first three marching band competitions of the season.
On October 10, the band competed in the West Ranch Wildcat Classic at Valencia High and was tournament sweepstakes winner and earned high music, high visual and high general effect honors from the judges. The colorguard was also sweepstakes winner. It was the first time Hart Regiment performed its winter-themed show, “Alpine,” in its entirety.
On October 17, Hart Regiment performed in the Marching Band Open Series held at Downey High School. During preliminary competition, the group came in first place in the Onyx division and received the high music award. During final competition later in the day, the band was sweepstakes winner for the entire competition. The group also won high music and high general effect honors.
On October 31, the band was one of 31 bands from throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas competing in the Bands of America Regional Championships in Santa Clarita. During preliminary competition, Hart Regiment was the Class AAA champion, winning high music, high visual and high general effect awards. It was one of 10 bands and the only local band to advance to the final round. During final competition, Hart Regiment competed against bands across all class categories and came in second place, winning high music honors.
“This is a great way to start the competition season,” says Anthony Bailey, band director. “I’m so proud of the students’ hard work and dedication. We’re looking forward to defending our state champion title in December.”
In 2008, Hart Regiment was named state champion in its division by the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Assn. (SCSBOA) for the seventh consecutive year – an accomplishment that remains unmatched by any other group.
