Greetings and Happy Holidays!  No doubt about it, this year has definitely been a challenging one!  Our City’s economic diversity, strong and sustainable local business community and supportive local government have enabled our community to weather the financial storms better than most cities, while continuing to move forward in a positive direction.  Your City has had a number of successes this year including the grand opening of our new 40,000 square foot skate park; the completion of the Magic Mountain/I-5 intersection and on/offramps expansion; the completion of phase one of the Old Town Newhall streetscape; our first Earth Day/Arbor Day event, a very successful Summer Concert series; completing the first phase of the Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program; beginning implementation of the non-motorized plan; our first two open space acquisitions through the new Open Space Preservation District; new drought-tolerant landscaped medians; and dozens of regional, state and national awards for excellence and innovation.
Our continued partnerships with the business community, school districts, College of the Canyons, nonprofit agencies and our residents have been key to all of these successes and more.  Santa Clarita is an amazing place to live, work and play because of the people who make up this community.  Thank you for your participation and support.
Finally, I encourage you to consider the City’s SCORE program as you prepare your shopping lists this year.  SCORE provides the opportunity for those in need to enjoy the City’s many recreational programs.  The City created the SCORE program, which stands for Supporting Children’s Opportunities in Recreational Events, to benefit youth who otherwise could not afford to, with a chance to participate and play in a safe environment, and enjoy the many great parks, recreational classes, program, and sports leagues offered by the City’s Recreation division via scholarships.  If you would like more information on the City’s SCORE program, please contact our Recreation division at 661-250-3769, or visit the City’s website at www.santa-clarita.com .
Best regards, Ken Pulskamp
