Progressive lenses or no line bifocals are the most advanced lens design of today.  A progressive lens is a lens designed to allow the patient to have clear vision far away, intermediate (computer) and reading distances without any lines.  With modern lens technology, progressives have little distortion and high adaptation rates.  Today’s progressives are much different than those of yesteryear.  Now, progressives designed for specific use and prescriptions, you can get a custom fit lens that is tailored made to specific aspects of your daily life.
With frame styles staying at a smaller size these days.  A short corridor progressive lens will allow for you to enjoy the fit of a smaller frame.  This type of lens has almost no intermediate zone that a standard progressive lens has to offer.
Free form progressive lenses are the future of lens technology that is here today.  This lens technology designs a unique progressive lens according to the patient’s prescription and other specific measurements.  These lenses are only manufactured in a few laboratories around the world.  Current lens manufacturers are Zeiss, and Seiko.
Professional Progressive lenses: These are job specific type of progressive lenses. They are designed for in-office use only.  What makes these lenses different is that for the far away portion of the lens is for 10 feet, not 20 feet and beyond.  Also they have a wider intermediate and reading area allowing for an expanded viewing area of the computer and near work.
These are just a few options of progressive lenses out there on the market.  If you are a current progressive wearer having trouble or a progressive lens drop out, it is important that you discuss with you doctor what the difficulties you were having because with today’s lens designs there is one out there that will help you look younger and see better.
