Frank Schlueter was outside a convenience store in June when he suffered a heart attack.  He was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills where he spent several days in intensive care.  By December he had donned his Santa Claus suit, ready to play the role for family and friends. Schlueter, 65, credits his quick recovery to his care at Providence Holy Cross, which provides the most comprehensive cardiac care services in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.
In fact, the cardiology program at Providence Holy Cross is rated among the top 10 in the state by HealthGrades, the leading hospital ratings organization.
“They saved my life,” Schlueter said.  “They put in a pacemaker and a defibrillator – and I’m feeling great now.”
Providence Holy Cross, 15 minutes from the heart of Santa Clarita, is five-star rated for treatment of congestive heart failure by HealthGrades.  The hospital has also been designated as a STEMI receiving center by Los Angeles County, which means patients suffering the most severe type of heart attack are rushed past other hospitals to Holy Cross for life-saving care.
The medical center’s expert team of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons uses the latest diagnostic techniques and equipment, and collaborates to determine the most appropriate therapies, interventional treatments and surgeries.
Providence Holy Cross is also home to the only hospital nursing team serving the region that has earned Magnet status, the top accreditation for nurses.  That translates to incomparable care at bedside.
Late last year, a team of ICU nurses was honored as Hospital Heroes for their skill in diagnosing a patient’s ruptured aorta and getting her to emergency surgery.
“We saved her,” said Pamela Rick, RN, manager of the hospital’s Critical Care Department.  “The nurses were super skilled and super aware.  They knew what it was immediately.  They worked with the surgeon and they saved her life.”
