Come celebrate the history and heritage of railroading this month in downtown Fillmore’s Central Park, admission is free.  The Santa Clara River Valley Railroad Historical Society (SCRVRHS) and Fillmore & Western Railway are co-sponsoring the 2010 RailFest celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28.  An annual event, there will be frontier gunfighters performing several times during the weekend, a SCRVRHS barbeque tri-tip booth, arts and craft vendors, model train displays at the Fillmore Historical Museum, many railroad artifacts and memorabilia being displayed at the Railroad Visitor Center and much, much more.  Bring the family and hop on a speeder, a small open-air vehicle that speeds down the tracks, or take a two and a half hour ride on one of Fillmore & Westerns’ scenic excursion trains that travels to Santa Paula and the Loose Caboose Garden Center.
Another family-friendly event at Fillmore & Western is the Family Murder Mystery Dinner Train on March 27, also known as “The Spaghetti Western,” where the comedy murder mystery is Western-themed and served with a complete spaghetti and meatball dinner.
March also opens the 2010 season of The Wine Express, an adults-only night out, on March 20.  The first winery to be featured this year is Herzog Winery of Oxnard and one of the venues of the Ventura County Wine Trail.  Hop on board and enjoy an hors d’oeuvres buffet, dessert buffet, wine-tasting and also dancing to the tunes of a DJ in the onboard dance car.
Adults over 18 years old will also enjoy a comedic night of murder, mystery and mayhem aboard the “Night Train to Murder,” murder mystery dinner theater on Saturday, March 13.
There is plenty to celebrate during the month in Fillmore, not the least, is the sweet aroma of orange blossoms as you enter the valley on State Route 126.  Great family and adult events sure to please as you step back in time aboard the vintage coach and dining cars of the Fillmore & Western Railway.
