Your breath is a wonderful tool for keeping you focused and for reducing anxiety.  It is physically impossible to hold onto anxiety while you are gently breathing.  When stress occurs, whether you receive bad news or are disappointed by life, remember that right now, at this very moment, you are safe.  Rather than worrying about what to do, breathe gently and focus on what you can do right now to take care of yourself in this very moment.  Your breath is always there as a tool to help you relax and reduce stress and anxiety.  Focus on your breath and let it be a good coping skill for you.  Allow your gentle breathing to induce feelings of relaxation and wellness.  Breathe deeply and think of things that you can do to feel calm and safe right now.  There is a deep inner part of you that can help you stay in the present moment and value it.  The stressful information you receive does not change who you are inside nor does it alter your connections with the people in your life.  Breathe deeply and tell yourself, “I am okay.”  Your breath is a very powerful tool.
Breathing is life.  It is one of our most vital functions. One of the five principles of yoga is breathing exercise.  This promotes proper breathing by bringing more oxygen to the blood and to the brain.  weSPARK Cancer Support Center in Santa Clarita is thrilled to announce that in April, our own yoga facilitator, Lisa Weill, will be teaching weSPARK guests some principles of yogic breathing.  In this workshop guests will learn about two different breaths.  The first technique is Long, Deep Breathing.  The effect of this rhythmic breathing induces changes in our brainwave patterns.  If we slow the breath to 8 breaths per minute we move into a meditative state.  This will leave you feeling very calm and peaceful.  The second technique is Breath of Fire.  This is a powerful, energizing breath which detoxifies and balances your body at a core level.   Please join us as we breathe our way to relaxation and tranquility.
“When the Breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the Breath is still, so is the mind still.” – Hatha Yoga Pradipika
