Why do you want a patio retreat? Living in a mild climate as we do in southern California, you can literally increase the usable square footage of your home by creating an outdoor living room! However, if your patio consists of a concrete slab, there is nothing to beckon you outside.
That is where I step in! With the addition of properly designed elements, I will inspire you to cross over the threshold from indoors to outdoors. Turning your patio into a destination is what transforms a concrete slab into a backyard escape.
Visual Harmony: Create a “flow” from the interior design to the outdoor spaces. Using the design element of repetition, repeat your fabric and accent colors from your interior design to lead the eye to the patio retreat and beyond. This can be accomplished with the addition of pillows, colorful pottery, and plant life.
Put a Lid On It: Consider some type of structure over or around your patio, such as a patio cover with Sunbrella draperies to define the space.
Make it Personal: Please inject some of your favorite décor items, such as pottery, artwork, and statuary into the design to give the retreat character and “life.”
Add a Focal Point: If the edge of your patio boundary is met by sod, consider adding stepping-stones to form a path. The final destination from that path could be a quaint settee. This settee will also provide a lovely focal point in the garden and a new vantage point to enjoy looking back at your beautiful patio.
