The current recession has forced many companies, especially those in the financial services sector, to trim their ranks. After all, getting fewer people to do more work has an immediate impact on the bottom line. And that has many people worried.
For those that do find themselves in the position of seeking new opportunities, the highest priority may not be the company’s benefits package, stock options, or corporate perks. Instead, today’s job hunters may only be interested in one thing: job security.
Security can be a hard thing to promise in an age of volatile markets, but insurance sales may be one of the careers impervious to the changing economic climates.
Why? Because the need for security and protection has always been and always will be there. And the need for highly-trained Life insurance agents is still in high demand.
Consider these facts. As the first wave of the nation’s 77 million baby boomers reaches retirement, many Americans will be facing a new set of risks and investment decisions. People are living longer, traditional pensions are disappearing, and savings rates are anemic. Many Americans are doing far too little to prepare financially for retirement, without knowing if their savings are going to last.
A recent Ibbotson poll(1) reveals that while 83 percent of Americans 30 and older agree that the current economic crisis has increased their desire to provide financial protection for their family, more than half of those surveyed lack a proper financial plan in case of the loss of the family breadwinner. Instead, survey respondents reported they would rely on their retirement savings, borrowing from family or getting another job if faced with financial hardship as the result of the loss of a breadwinner.
So while common sense tells us that nothing can be completely recession proof, a career in insurance sales may offer you job security and the chance to make a difference in the lives of those in your community. Speak to an industry recruiter today and find out just how recession proof your job can be.
