The caring, commitment, and compassion provided by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s nursing teams was the focus of the hospital’s National Nurses Day celebration on Wednesday, May 12.
Celebrated each year on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing, Henry Mayo’s nursing teams were treated to a day of gifts, prizes and special recognition. Balloons and posters promoting patient experiences and highlighting staff attributes decorated the hospital hallways and a banner hung outside the hospital.
“Our nursing teams are the backbone of our ability to provide excellent patient care and positive experiences for patients and their families,” commented Roger Seaver, President and CEO at Henry Mayo. “It’s an honor to recognize their contributions and remind them how valued they are and what a difference they make every single day.”
The day’s celebrations kicked off with continental breakfast being delivered to the nursing units. A catered luncheon was served by hospital leadership and physicians, and the evening shifts munched away on pizza. Special pampering included hand and back massages.
“We are extremely proud of our nursing staff and their commitment to giving our patients the best care possible. No matter what specialty or nursing career level, they are passionate about the well-being of our patients and typically go beyond what is required of them,” said Larry Kidd, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer.
National Nurse’s Day began as a way to honor nurses who dedicate themselves to caring for others. Often described as an art and a science, nursing is a profession that embraces dedicated people with varied interests, strengths, and passions.
Henry Mayo’s nursing teams include close to 900 patient care staff members, with specialties ranging from emergency care to behavioral health to surgical services, and much more. They provide quality care for patients with many different types of illness and injuries and serve all of them with compassion and with a strong commitment to patient safety.
